JAR Primer
At each JAR a different aspect of Jesus' life is re-presented. These 're-presentation experiences' are designed specifically for those curious about exploring Jesus in an interesting, fun, thought-provoking and non-traditional manner. Each re-presentation experience stands on its own, so don't worry about when you start...just jump in anytime. Common elements of re-presentation experiences include:
- Multimedia...clips from movies, TV and the Internet, as well as video produced in-house bring aspects of Jesus' life and our lives to the screen
- Discussion...a host will guide you through each experience but your thoughts are important to us - keep exploring by sharing your doubts, questions and thoughts with one of our hosts
- The Bible...God's perfect guidebook for living and the ultimate source of our understanding, beliefs and convictions concerning Jesus
- Drama...short vignettes acted out on stage; used to illustrate a point in a manner unique to other artistic forms
Expect to be Enveloped The JAR is presented in a comfortable, coffeehouse style venue designed to enhance the use of multimedia. Re-presentation experiences are just that--experiences. They aren't worship services, prayer meetings or liturgical exercises and each experience lasts about 40 minutes. They aren't steeped in tradition, you won't hear strange language and you'll never feel like you don't know what to do.
Our Goal We will strive to provide you with information that will assist your exploration of Jesus. In so doing, we commit to be:
- Humble...we don't have all the truth, but there are some things Jesus claimed that we believe are true. We will share what we believe with the understanding that your exploration of Jesus is about more than just information. We trust that you'll never feel like we're trying to 'sell' you anything.
- Practical...what good is Jesus if his claims aren't practical? Not much! We will highlight the practicality of his message and offer practical suggestions for trying out his teachings.
- Rational...we feel it's impossible to fully understand God, but we strongly believe that he is understandable in part. We will focus our experiences on the aspects of God that are understandable and provide relevant illustrations that cultivate understanding in the minds of the explorers. We hope JAR won't be the end of anyone's exploration, but the beginning instead.
- Respectful...God isn't for everyone...he says so himself. Given this, our agenda is to re-present Jesus and to respect your personal exploration. Although we desire that every person know Jesus personally, we recognize that's between the person and Jesus. We'll do our part and leave the mystery to you and him.
